My Fourth Short Film "The Landlord"
Today I’ve released the fourth short film I directed “The Landlord.”
“The Landlord” is a film noir style film about a broken radiator. Jimmy (Derek Minter) and Christine (Joy Tweedie) are living a great life in their new apartment, except their radiator keeps breaking. Tony (Loren Bryant), the landlord must keep coming over to fix that darn contraption. Jimmy begins...

What do they teach you in school these days?
Lilly: Where are we?
The Doctor: In a forest. In a box. In a sitting room. Pay attention! He's about 20 minutes ahead of us
Lilly: But we just saw him!
The Doctor: Time moves differently across the dimensional planes. What do they teach you in school these days?
Lilly: But I don't understand where we are!
The Doctor: We went through a dimensional portal… thingy.
Lilly: Well what's that supposed to be? Where did it come from?
The Doctor: It was a present and it wasn't supposed to be opened until Christmas Day. Honestly, who opens their Christmas Presents early? OK…shut up…everyone.
All you can take with you is that which you’ve given away.

Let's fall in love with the movies…again.
Today marks the unofficial begin to the holiday movie season. And the release of several high profile films that are looking to make a splash both at the box office and with the academy voters. I’ve seen quite a few of these films and I have to recommend two of them in particular. They have a common theme. They are both in love with the movies and are dying to make their audiences fall in...

My Third Short Film "Laid Off"
Today I’m releasing to the public for free viewing my third short film “Laid Off.” One thing about this short film ended up being it’s timeliness. We broke the story in early September 2008. I handed in my first draft of the story literally the morning the sub-prime mortgage crash started started kicking up. I don’t think we were trying to predict anything about the financial...

Tessa: OK remember that time you got me that goldfish and you said I had to take care it all by myself and I was so excited to show you that I could that I rushed home from school and I cleaned the bowl and changed the water and threw the fish in there but the water was too cold and the fish went into shock and got these little tiny bubbles all over his body and… died?
Dad: Yeah?
Tessa: I feel like the fish.
Dad: You remember that time I tried to show you that Fellini movie and you refused to watch it because it was in black and white and it had subtitles and you said it looked dumb and boring but then they made you watch it at school and it turned out you actually loved it?
Tessa: Yeah?
Dad: I feel like this is a Fellini movie.

It's Labor Day… yay?
My Dad doesn’t like labor day.
I have to admit I understand where he’s coming from. Mostly, I’m not sure how we are supposed to celebrate. Fourth of July we have fireworks. Thanksgiving means a great dinner. Arbor day plant a tree. Memorial Day Weekend (at least growing up in Indianapolis) means the Indy 500 and a cook out. But even firing up the ol’ BBQ doesn’t...

When Film Critics and Movie Fans Disagree →
Metacritic.com (my review aggregator of choice) recently looked at films in which viewer ratings and critic ratings varied the most. I haven’t seen many of the films on the list but I noticed a few trends. Critics like their films more complex and challenging (at least intellectually and aesthetically) than audiences. Audiences like farces and romantic comedies more than critics.
The...

The story of my second short film "Art Sale"
“Art Sale” was the film that I made with my family. My dad was my Director of Photography. My brother, aunt and uncle served as our production assistant and extras. It was shot in my Aunt’s art gallery. It remains one of my personal favorites. It’s short, to the point and lots of fun.
I remember the day I wrote the script. I was riding high on life. I had just endured 3...
